Hazard Alley | The Safety Centre
Hazard Alley is the world’s first interactive indoor safety education village. It was planned and established in 1992 and was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester in 1994. Hazard Alley is part of a charity called The Safety Centre. They show children and adults how they can stay safe, understand risks and avoid accidents through powerful experiential learning.
Originally conceived by Bucks Fire & Rescue Service & Thames Valley Police, it aimed to introduce children to risks, dangers and hazards in a totally safe environment.
By creating everyday scenarios that children can walk into, we developed a learning environment where children can explore, investigate, discover and imagine in complete safety.
It works so well that children don’t even realise how much they are learning and their visit is memorable into adulthood. Since it opened it has hosted half a million children as well as inspiring other centres across the UK. It is self-financing, income coming from services offered, grants, donations and sponsorship.
Arthur Ellis | Mental Health Service
Jon Manning started mental health charity Arthur Ellis in 2017, naming this movement after his grandfathers, Arthur Manning and Ellis Graham. Ellis suffered with schizoaffective disorder, and with a lack of knowledge around how to deal with this enduring illness, he sadly spent most of his life in hospital.
With Jon himself suffering with a mental illness for 20 years without access to meaningful support, he founded Arthur Ellis to change the way we see and support mental health. The charity aims to create a culture where we all have the knowledge to identify and practically help someone in need. Jon now leads the team and has had the wonderful opportunity to share his story and vision as a guest speaker, from venue appearances at The Cambridge Union and the RSA, to radio and TV slots such as on BBC Look East.
He approached the team at 123 Internet seeking support for the Arthur Ellis website. We redesigned and built a brand new site with bespoke illustrations, ensuring functionality for donations and an online shop. Since the new website went live, we have continued working with the team at Arthur Ellis, providing ongoing support with social media management, regular artwork design and a strong strategy to build Jon Manning’s LinkedIn community.
